The 2015 Indigenous Peoples sunrise ceremony, serving morning coffee

           IN GRATITUDE AND RESPECT

After the ceremony I set up my decagram social

vessels to serve the morning Lebanese coffee.

THE PURPOSE

  • To connect people with a social activity, in this case the coffee. then the participants will create and experience a working community for just a moment.

  • The lovely individuals were old friends, family, and new peers.

  • With common goal of enjoying some coffee after a long night of waiting for the sun

  • Since all the cups were connected by short string the participants had to sync up with the space and movement of the group in order to drink communally without spilling.

MY GOAL

  • To physically connect people from different backgrounds for an opportunity to cooperate and communicate together to enjoy a moment of community synchronicity.

  • I wanted to illuminate the invisible bond of community cooperation through the string. The community members can see it, they can feel it through the tautness of the string, and they have to consider it when coordinating their movements when they want to take a sip or help others do so.
